There are currently around 16,000 practicing vets in the UK and there is still a need for more. To work as a vet in the UK can be enjoyable, educational and rewarding in many ways. Locum and permanent positions are available in locations throughout the UK.

 

To be able to practice you will need to register with The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. To be eligible for registration you need to be a graduate in veterinary science from:

  • Iceland
  • Norway
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Pretoria
  • North America

To legally work in the UK you may also need a visa or work permit. There are many different visa types available. The youth migrant scheme allows individuals up to 30 years of age the opportunity of a 12 month working stay and there are skilled migrant visa options for vets looking to stay longer or relocate.
